Prayer for January 5th, 2024
Good morning, God —thank you!!
Your Kingdom is the centerpiece of your master plan for humanity. Therefore, knowing everything is in your plan, we mustn’t feel that it is wrong when we watch to see what is happening in the world. When your Word warns us not to love the world, you speak of “the lust in the eyes and the pride of life.” But, when we watch the news and see division, lies, deception, hatred, racism, murder, trafficking, debauchery —even the good news, we recognize what to watch and pray for, whether good or evil, true or not. It allows the scary conditions to drive us to our knees in prayer —helping to build our faith and yearn for you. Scripture tells us the world will grow more complex and broken before your Kingdom comes. So, please help me to take in all that is happening in moderation so that I do not become sucked into fear but “accounted worthy to escape all these things that shall come to pass,” as I keep my trust in you. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
15 Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him.
16 For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world.
17 And the world passeth away, and the lust thereof: but he that doeth the will of God abideth for ever.
36 Watch ye therefore, and pray always, that ye may be accounted worthy to escape all these things that shall come to pass, and to stand before the Son of man.
25 As cold waters to a thirsty soul, so is good news from a far country.
6 For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace. 7 Of the increase of his government and peace there shall be no end, upon the throne of David, and upon his kingdom, to order it, and to establish it with judgment and with justice from henceforth even for ever. The zeal of the Lord of hosts will perform this.
7 He shall not be afraid of evil tidings: his heart is fixed, trusting in the Lord.
2 Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth.
3 For ye are dead, and your life is hid with Christ in God.
4 When Christ, who is our life, shall appear, then shall ye also appear with him in glory.
5 Mortify therefore your members which are upon the earth; fornication, uncleanness, inordinate affection, evil concupiscence, and covetousness, which is idolatry:
6 For which things’ sake the wrath of God cometh on the children of disobedience:
7 In the which ye also walked some time, when ye lived in them.
8 But now ye also put off all these; anger, wrath, malice, blasphemy, filthy communication out of your mouth.
9 Lie not one to another, seeing that ye have put off the old man with his deeds;
10 And have put on the new man, which is renewed in knowledge after the image of him that created him:
