Prayer for September 10th’ 2023
Good morning, God —thank you!!
We who live by the Spirit are waging war. We are new creatures in Christ but still live in our fleshly bodies. There is tension. You/Jesus came as our liberator, but active resistance remains. Struggle with sin will go on throughout our lives. Your Word says it will, which helps calm me because I know it is normal. A believer’s life is one of sustained warfare against the ongoing resistance of our flesh to the rule of Christ. Holy Spirit, please help me dress daily in your Armor as I fight this battle against sin: sexual immorality, impurity, sensuality, idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, discord, jealousy, fits of rage, selfish ambition, dissensions, factions, envy, drunkenness, orgies, and the like, for you! In Jesus’ name. Amen.
17 For the flesh lusteth against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh: and these are contrary the one to the other: so that ye cannot do the things that ye would.
18 But if ye be led of the Spirit, ye are not under the law.
19 Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness,
20 Idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies,
21 Envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have also told you in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God.
21 I find then a law, that, when I would do good, evil is present with me.
22 For I delight in the law of God after the inward man:
23 But I see another law in my members, warring against the law of my mind, and bringing me into captivity to the law of sin which is in my members.
24 O wretched man that I am! who shall deliver me from the body of this death?
25 I thank God through Jesus Christ our Lord. So then with the mind I myself serve the law of God; but with the flesh the law of sin.
