Prayer for January 27th’ 2023

Good morning, God —thank you!

Please help me to refrain from anger, be angry but not belligerent, or let the sun go down on my fury. An ill temper does not produce the righteousness of Jesus. Nor does judgment or name-calling. Going to a confidant only to look up names to call someone and gossip about is not of you. You are the judge and avenger. Nor do believers even come into judgment by you but have passed from death to life. You want Christ’s followers to grow up “to know the whole truth and tell it in love—like Christ in everything.” We take our lead from him, the source of all we do. Thank you, Father! In Jesus’ name. Amen.

Ephesians 4:26

26 Be ye angry, and sin not: let not the sun go down upon your wrath:

James 1:20

20 For the wrath of man worketh not the righteousness of God.

Proverbs 29:9-11

If a wise man contendeth with a foolish man, whether he rage or laugh, there is no rest.

10 The bloodthirsty hate the upright: but the just seek his soul.

11 A fool uttereth all his mind: but a wise man keepeth it in till afterwards.

John 5:24

24 Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life.

1 Peter 4:13-17

13 But rejoice, inasmuch as ye are partakers of Christ’s sufferings; that, when his glory shall be revealed, ye may be glad also with exceeding joy.

14 If ye be reproached for the name of Christ, happy are ye; for the spirit of glory and of God resteth upon you: on their part he is evil spoken of, but on your part he is glorified.

15 But let none of you suffer as a murderer, or as a thief, or as an evildoer, or as a busybody in other men’s matters.

16 Yet if any man suffer as a Christian, let him not be ashamed; but let him glorify God on this behalf.

17 For the time is come that judgment must begin at the house of God: and if it first begin at us, what shall the end be of them that obey not the gospel of God?

1 Corinthians 13:2

The Message

If I speak God’s Word with power, revealing all his mysteries and making everything plain as day, and if I have faith that says to a mountain, “Jump,” and it jumps, but I don’t love, I’m nothing.

Proverbs 19:11

11 The discretion of a man deferreth his anger; and it is his glory to pass over a transgression.

Ephesians 4:14-16

The Message

14-16 No prolonged infancies among us, please. We’ll not tolerate babes in the woods, small children who are easy prey for predators. God wants us to grow up, to know the whole truth and tell it in love—like Christ in everything. We take our lead from Christ, who is the source of everything we do. He keeps us in step with each other. His very breath and blood flow through us, nourishing us so that we will grow up healthy in God, robust in love.
