Daily Prayer for August 22nd, 2021

Good morning, God—thank you!

Thank you especially that I do not have it in me to deceive others, appease my appetite, even without intent. I do unto others as I would have them to do unto me—your second greatest command. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

Romans 16:18

18 For such persons do not serve our Lord Christ, but their own appetites, and by smooth talk and flattery they deceive the hearts of the naive.

Psalm 120:2

Deliver me, O Lord,
from lying lips,
from a deceitful tongue.

Proverbs 20:17

17 Bread gained by deceit is sweet to a man,
but afterward his mouth will be full of gravel

Psalm 101:7

No one who practices deceit
shall dwell in my house;
no one who utters lies
shall continue before my eyes.

Matthew 22:36-40

36 “Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?”

37 Jesus replied: “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ 38 This is the first and greatest commandment. 39 And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ 40 All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.”
